Robin Williams flying the GRIFFEN flag

December 13, 2009

Back in the day…

I never had the opportunity to meet him, but I understand that Robin Williams accumulated a nice collections of GRIFFENS.  Word is that he really liked an “Italian Flag” paint job, then added more GRIFFENs “flagged” with other countries.

This is the only pic I’ve seen – but it did run in People Magazine.

I was also told by the owner of San Francisco’s Citizen Chain bike shop that Robin actually has a custom of literally flying a flag over his house whenever he goes out for a ride.  Pretty cool!

Can you tell that’s a Griffen?

Jul2000-InsideTriathlon-Cover-Chris-Legh

An oldie, but a goodie…  I wonder have many Tri bike brands have actually made the cover of Inside Triathlon or Triathlete magazines…?

Take a look through the recently updated pages at right for the various frame styles to see if you find anything of interest…

Road frames are pretty sparse with only 3 MMC frames left, but we do have about a dozen STEEL road frames.

TT/Tri frames are thinnning out too, but we still have some MMC and AL in the various sizes listed.

And for those Track cyclists out there – we still have 2 of those on the list.

Only 3 MMC Road Frames Left…

Griffen fans have continued to scoop up these last remaining frames at a steady clip… we’re now down to our last 3 MMC Road frames.  Is one of them the right size for someone you know?

Components posted w/pics…

COMP 056

Finally got around to uploading most of the component pics.  A few particularly attentive people noticed the early postings – and started ordering before I was even finished!  Thanks!!

FYI – I’ll be travelling most of next week, so it will probably take me longer than normal to respond – but I will get to you when I can.  More additions are already in the queue for when I get back in town.

STEEL Frame pics added…

Four painted STEEL frame pics posted – all but the primered ones.  I’d forgotten just how beautiful these things are!!

Aluminum Tri Frame pics posted… Track Frame pics too!

July 8, 2009

AL-M1001

Check out the page for Aluminum Tri frames to see multiple views of the unpainted frames.  These are still available in all sizes.  I also posted a handful of painted aluminum frames – several with a cool tribal motif.

There are only 2 track frames, but I’ve posted pics of both on that page.

STEEL frames are next!!

Posting Lots of Bike Frame pics…

K1273

As requested, I’ve started adding pics of the remaining bike frames right on the pages.  It’s taking me a while, so please bear with me.  If you don’t see a pic for the frame you like, just let me know and I’ll try to get to it sooner.  The MMC Tri Frames are done – until I can take the other photos.

Once I get caught up on these, I’ll move on to the next category of items – probably “Components”…

Framesets Added to Listings…

July 5, 2009

I’ve just finished adding some specific pages for each of the various types of framesets that are still available.  You’ll find our current inventory of GRIFFEN MMC Triathlon, Track, and Road frames.   You’ll also find a listing of GRIFFEN STEEL Road frames and Aluminim Tri frames.  Take a look and see if you can find something that will work for you.

Please feel free to pass this along to any friends who you think might have some interest.  I also encourage you to sign up to receive notification of updates as we will be adding quite a few more things here over the next few weeks.

What really happened to GRIFFEN Bicycles…?

July 5, 2009

With great sadness, after 15 years of business, we have recently shut down the operation of GRIFFEN Bicycles.  The factory in Decatur, Texas has been closed, and all employees have moved on to other pursuits.  As part of the process involved with winding down this business, we are selling off all remaining assets of the company – including the GRIFFEN brand itself.

I’m hoping that this forum will provide an outlet for these assets to find their way into the hands of people who will appreciate them for what they are – painstakingly crafted works of art that cyclists have been raving about for over a decade.  I fully expect that a good number of current GRIFFEN owners will take this last opportunity to add to their arsenal, while some others who have been waiting will seize this final opportunity to grab a GRIFFEN of their own before they become completely extinct.

There’s also a part of me that hopes this “tribe” of GRIFFEN athletes might come together in a collective voice that will be heard by someone who has the heart to keep this wonderful brand alive.  I’ve had the pleasure of hearing this voice in virtually every GRIFFEN customer interaction, and it is hard for me to fathom how something that is loved so much, by so many, could actually go away…  Perhaps someone out there with greater economic depth than mine would still be willing to answer the call of the GRIFFEN tribe – only time will tell…  If it matters to you – let your voice be heard here!!
